"Island to Island is the unique product of a joint publishing initiative between the Publishers Association of New Zealand, the Taipei Book Fair Foundation and the New Zealand Book Council, in the form of a Graphic Novelists Exchange: giving three cartoonists from New Zealand and three from Taiwan the opportunity to collaborate and produce a graphic novel together.
In October 2014, Taiwanese cartoonists Sean Chuang, 61Chi and Ahn Zhe traveled to New Zealand to meet and collaborate with local cartoonists Tim Gibson, Rachel Fenton and Ant Sang. The following February saw New Zealand cartoonists join their collaborators in Taiwan to continue working on the project and attend the Taipei International Book Fair 2015, at which New Zealand was a Guest of Honour.
The finished result of this cultural exchange is a graphic novel in which the six cartoonists share personal stories with each other in a series of 18 interlocking tales, which can be read separately, but read as a whole form a visual conversation between the six artists across two cultures."

Tim Gibson (flyingwhities.com)
Tim Gibson has a background in illustrating worlds, characters, and monsters for films, including Tintin, District 9 and Avatar. In 2012 he was awarded Creative New Zealand funding to write and illustrate his debut comic series Moth City (www.mothcity.com) which has since gained a substantial digital readership, the support of leading American creators and was named as one of Comixology's TopComics for 2013. His work has been widely anthologised and Moth City is considered a ground-breaking approach to storytelling.
Rachel Fenton (twitter.com/RaeJFenton)
Also known as Rae Joyce, she is an AUT award-winning graphic poet, featured in New Zealand Comics. She has had comics and Graphic Novels (Hicksville Press) and was mentored by Dylan Horrocks. She has had comics and graphic poetry published in the University of Stockholm's journal Two Thirds North, Hermeneutic Chaos Literary Journal, Thrush Poetry Journal, was Artist in Residence at Counterexample Poetics, and co-editor of Three Words, an anthology of New Zealand Women’s Cartoons and Comics.
Ant Sang (antsang.co.nz)
Ant Sang, who lives and works in Auckland, is an award-winning cartoonist. Author and illustrator ofthe celebrated The Dharma Punks comic book series, he has a cult following among graphic novel fansand comic art aficionados. Shaolin Burning (Harper Collins 2011) is his latest graphic novel and spenten weeks in the top ten of the NZ Booksellers Bookchart. He was one of the original creatives on the successful bro’ Town animated TV series, and won two Film & Television awards for his design work onthe show.

Born in 1968, and graduated from Fu-hsin Trade & Arts School. Sean Chuang has been a director of commercial films for 20 years, making over 400 commercials and received numerous local and Asia Pacific awards. In 1997, he published the comics Film Maker's Notes, which recorded his life and works. The comics was a great success and went through 18 printings. In 2010, Chuang completed his followup, The Window. His third comics work, '80s Diary in Taiwan, which records his experiences growing up in Taiwan in the 80s, was published in June 2013 and won “Best Young Male Comic Award” and“Comic of the Year Award” of 2014 Golden Comic Awards.

Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1988. In 2007, she self-published her first book of illustrations, and in 2011, graduated from the institute of Design at Taiwan Normal University. So far she has self-published more than 10 works. In addition, she has worked with numerous publishers and companies to produce book covers and illustrations. 61Chi belongs to the new generation of Taiwanese comics artists. She has various interests, such as comics, design and photography, and is active in the self-publishing scene. Her first book of comics Room was published in January 2014. The book was nominated for the 2015 TIBEBook Prize and won the 2015 International MANGA Award in Japan.
Ahn Zhe (behance.net/ahnzhe)
Ahn Zhe was born in Taipei in 1985. He currently works as a visual artist at his own studio in Taipei. His artworks have been exhibited in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Hong Kong. In 2013, The Dustman was selected in Young Talents category in Angoulme International Comics Festival, and The Gift won the first prize of Young Talent in Fumetto Comix Festival, Luzern. In 2014, The Disappeared No. 226 won the Merit Award in 3x3 Professional Show, USA. The graphic notebook The Dream Under The Bed was published in 2011, and his first picture book The Disobedient Stone was published in 2014.
